F*** You Friend, Thanks For Everything Though
Let's go down this crazy road to the fall of 2013. I did my first EVER mini sessions. Actually my first sessions ever. Granted I was only charging $50 for the photos I really had no business charging at all. This is to anyone that has thought they "suck" because guess what friends - We were all there once!
Flash forward to a few weeks ago -
Now I know I still have that stupid sign to clone out there's a drastic change with lighting.
What I have learned in the 4 years since I started using my precious Nikon.
1. Backs towards the SUN!
2. Shade backs towards the sun if it is too sunny (Afternoon)
3. Open shade is your friend with no spotted lighting
4. Don't worry about WHERE you are, worry about where your LIGHT is!
5. You can make trashy looking places look like gold in-camera with great lighting.
6. Get your workflow down! You do this, and you can pop out 15 min family sessions no problem!
7. Change things up - Don't always do the same thing over and over.
8. DO SESSIONS FOR YOU. This means as a photographer / creative, you need these to help your mood and your creative mojo to flow. Styled shoots are my way of getting the love back into photography I usually do them every 4 months or PRN (as needed)
I always find myself in a photography slump unhappy with my work and ever second-guessing myself. Most introverted/ creatives are just like this. Are you like this?! This is my advice to you. Get a mentor. Someone who will tell you how it is no matter what. I had this. He was a fellow photography enthusiast. He was so harsh on my constructive criticism that it made me so mad I blocked him off all my social media and my phone. I still haven't talked to him since 2014 but guess what he was the motivation I needed to say the big F*U I can do better! SO I was determined to prove myself and be a better creative. So thanks to you friend for being the asshole I needed in my life when all my friends were too kind to tell me I sucked.
